My life’s story…….until so far

My name is pretty clear I guess  (in case you missed it; Yorick Reintjens). Born in the Dutch city of Gouda on December 7^th 1983 at 5 AM.  Moved to the suburbs of The Hague in 1987 (at age of 4) and went to school here here here here and here. You may say; I like to travel to the finest and worst places and find the one, or two, or three……. I’ve never been the study type (sure I fit in when it comes to partying and ‘scoring’ the girls, no problem with that) but when it comes to the actual studying I would (and still) rather hangout in my favorite cafe, working on my business or just have fun. I was (and still am) always busy with trying to earn my own money from age 14 especially when I saw my brother delivering newspapers and watch the older kids in the neighborhood ride heavily tuned scooters (with speeds far beyond the legal 45 km/ph) this is where I thought ‘I can do that much better at (hopefully) a higher salary’.

It was the year 1998 when the Internet was booming like never before and seemed endless (till a few years later). My dad and I were driving along the highway near Rotterdam and I was figuring out a business name for my very own first business. I came up with TopPlaza (yes….it’s my personal blog at the moment). Registered it and started working on ..… something to put on. Everybody was playing online games and I wanted a percentage of this market. I searched (in those days via altavista, hotbot and lycos) for interesting online games. Found a website and closed a deal on purchasing their flash games. Bit of marketing behind and suddenly I was the number 3 in the online game suppliers market within the Netherlands (according to user votes on Telegraafnet.nl , doesn’t exist anymore).

In 2000 I wanted something new. I turned 16 and bought my very own first scooter (my dad helped me a little bit financially though). It’s funny cause I bought it I made many pictures and put them online….and the link is still available. When you’re 16 on a brand new scooter and it runs 45 km p/h that’s not cool. So I searched the Internet for tuning tips……..nowhere to be found. Within a few weeks I remodeled TopPlaza into a scooter website with information, pricing and the obvious tuning tips. We heavily modified scooter in our backyard (nothing grows their anymore due to the amount of spilled oil and cleaning products J). Say bye bye to your vegetable garden. Anyway, I uploaded all my tips and visited local dealers for the latest prices on the latest models. Eventually it was a (small) success but nothing compared to the gaming years. Ohh right, forgot to mention that somebody wanted to buy my name (with its content) for 100.000 Guilders (equivalent to 45.000 Euros). I was stunned, never heard from the company again (will look for the e-mail and fax). TopPlaza turned private in late 2002 after many happy years serving the surfers.

The years between 2002 and 2006 I worked as a freelance web-designer, ‘studied’ in Miami beach (for unfortunately only 3 months), moved into my very own apartment in Amsterdam (in 2005), discovered Amsterdam and studied (my own literature).

On the 26^th of may 2006 I registered and founded my present company InventiX. In the beginning it supposed to be a remotely controlled helpdesk for people with computer problems. This lasted for a few good years and I realized there’s more than spending too much time behind a monitor for a low income. People say ‘time is money’, now I get that expression. In 2008 I registered the name AlleenEten.nl, not knowing I would actually do something with until the end of 2009. In December I launched AlleenEten.nl. It’s a website specialized in having dinner by yourself; basically a restaurant guide for single people or people who are ‘accidentally’ alone. Had a commercial on a local radiostation and several interviews on the radio. It’s still up and running (in Dutch by the way) !.

I’m always busy with exploiting myself in the search of potential (business) opportunities. That’s why I’m in Vancouver at the moment. Way too many interesting and feasible ideas. Got a slightly impressive amount on the ‘drawing’ table. I’ll keep you posted !.

It is through creating, not possessing, that life is revealed.
